Hi All,
Welcome to my monthly ramblings.
The regular readers will have noticed that I have not included the grand prix results in this bulletin. That is because Lawrence is now handling the results and he has been sending them out immediately after the event so you are able to see them much quicker. I have included last months time trial results in this bulletin, but from this month Lawrence will also be sending them out. Many thanks to Lawrence.
As usual I have attached to this newsbulletin the training programme for the next couple of months.
New Members
Since the start of the year the following members have joined us: Dani Durose, Steve Eaton, Paul & Rachel Faulkner, Emily Francis & Jon Wolfe. That now brings the membership to 60, the highest number ever. So welcome to all these new members.
Grand Prix Competitions
We are still in the process of sorting out how we deal with chip timing. Our meeting to finally decide will on 7th April. So if you do have views on the choice between mat to mat or gun to mat timing then please let us know before the meeting. It certainly has sparked a debate in the club.
The current grand prix results are based on mat to mat timing, so if we do decide to go for gun to mat they will be updated. It's still not too late to get your voice heard before the decision is finally made.
18th February 2009 - Time Trials
The results of the last time trial are given on the attached spreadsheet. We had 15 runners taking part. Andis leading the way in 18 min 23 sec. He was the fastest runner on the day and also took most points for improvement. It was good to see that the system works well as the second place runner on improvement was the second slowest runner on the day. That's the whole point of time trials as every runner is racing against their own time, so I am pleased to see it working.
The early leader for the trophy is Chris Cox. Is this part of his big come back?
25th March 2009 - 5k Time Trials
Tomorrow night is the next of the time trials. We have now fixed the qualifying events for the trophy as the best six, but it must include at least one of the longer routes. That means that you can miss out five events and still qualify for the trophy.
4th April 2009 - Midlands Road Relay Championships
By now you should all have been asked about taking part in these relays. We have entered teams in both the mens and women's relays. This is a great club day out so if you cannot take part, you can still turn out to support the club. Although we have teams I am sure you would be welcome to turn up with your kit just in case someone drops out at the last minute. It would be good to see us finish a mens and ladies team again.
15th April 2009 - Club Spring 5K
This year for the first time we have doubled up on this race. It will count towards the time trial series as well as a grand prix event. It is usually one of the most popular events of the year so lets see if we can get over 30 runners turned out.
17th April 2009 - Club Quiz
As you all know Lawrence has arranged a quiz at the Kings Head on 17th April. There are still places left so if you are interested then please contact Lawrence quickly. It starts at 8.00 on the Friday night. It's the first time we've tried the King Head for a social event so lets make it a success.
10th May 2009 - Hinckley (Dog & Hedgehog) Half Marathon
This is the fifth event in the Grand Prix series and is always well over subscribed. Again another very popular half marathon. Last year many club runners were disappointed as they left their entry till the last minute and did not get a place. So get your entry in quickly if you want to run it, you have been warned.
You can enter online through: www.sendentry.com or through www.runnersworld.com.
